DMS Annonces 2006 support for GOTO: RACING
Scotts Valley, CA 2/05/2006 - Last year, GOTO:Racing had an extremely successful campaign in the US Touring Car championship. Brian Lock drove their 2004 Subaru WRX to 2nd Place in the Drivers Championship, and was the recipient of the Apex'I Rookie of the Year trophy. Two wins and five podium finishes were proof that the then rookie team had what it takes to compete in a competitive National forum, and with the addition of new Subaru race car, a new series, and a new driver, the team plans to show those colors on an even bigger scale.
Team Principal and Owner Steve Lock described the coming season, "This year's USTCC holds a lot of promise. With the addition of many outstanding venues such as Laguna Seca with A1GP, and Pacific Raceways with NASCAR, we needed to make sure we had a program running there. And since USTCC has been such a great place to prove the road race Potential of Subaru in the past, we decided to go back with two cars."
So, with the support of Subaru of America, GOTO has brought a new car into it's stable for 2006, the Legacy GT. This stylish 4 door has already proven that it is no slouch, surprising the team in the initial testing with handling uncharacteristically light for a car it's size, or even cars smaller! "Even though I know it weighs 250lbs more, it drives even lighter than the WRX. I wouldn't change a thing", remarked Brian Lock after his first test session at Infineon Raceway.
Built to Grand American Sport Tuning spec, the GT will see action in both this and USTCC in 2006. "We are planning on a full season of USTCC for the Legacy," said Steve, "but one of our team goals has always been to run an endurance format in a professional series, so we are also planning to compete in some Grand-Am Cup events to get our feet wet in that series." Though USTCC is the main agenda, Grand-Am Cup Racing is a high priority for the team. 2006 will be a development year for the Legacy and will be a lead in for a full season of Cup racing in 2007.
Brian's brother, Chris Lock, will also be stepping up to pro ranks this year, filling the slot as Brian's Cup co-driver, and his teammate in USTCC. Last year's Honda Challenge Champion, Chris showed much of the same promise Brian did early in his career. "I was actually really surprised at how well Chris did right off the bat," said Brian referring to Chris' January test in the WRX at Laguna Seca, "He got comfortable very quickly, even though the car was unlike anything he had ever driven." "I expected a much harder transition, "said Chris about his test, "with the extra weight and power I was expecting the car to be difficult to drive. I was amazed at how easy it was to control, even at those higher speeds. I suppose I should thank All-Wheel-Drive for that."
